Program Options: Ideas for presenting Bill Miller
on your campus (back to top)
In the midst of his abundant artistic life, Bill
is also a sought–after guest speaker at corporate, collegiate,
and community venues nationwide. His presentation may be customized
to each engagement and are built around the following core topics:
Reconciliation
and Diversity Symposium: “The Red Road to Victory”
Bill
opens in song with a hand drum or native flute. After a brief review
of his Mohican tribal history and an intimate look into his native
culture, he shares three personal stories. His journey from victim
to victory is charted and he illustrates the wisdom of “the
twelve feathers of healing” to model his vision of transformation
through reconciliation. Bill illustrates the relationship between
majority and minority cultures, the ineffectual result of teaching
tolerance and assimilation, and instead promotes a redemptive culture
of understanding and peace.
Art Lecture: “Three Elements In Native American Art”
A
formally trained artist and seasoned painter, Bill shares his historical
and cultural overview of Native America, while demonstrating on
canvas the use of three traditional elements—function, beauty
and spirit. He completes the lecture with a discussion period and
always offers the painting to the students for completion.
Music Workshop: “Songs Of The Spirit”
With
an authentic perspective, Bill encourages students to acknowledge
their heritage and core vision. A seasoned musician, performer and
road warrior, he uses his experience in touring, recording and songwriting
to inform and inspire those with a desire to contribute through
their musical gifts. Included is an overview of the history of Native
American music, both traditional and contemporary, plus a discussion
and demonstration of the native flute and drum. He focuses on one
of three areas of expertise: songwriting, publishing and recording;
touring, management and booking; and media, marketing and promotion.

**NEW! Responses
from Bill Miller's recent visit to Wayland, NY School District!
A quick note to say thanks for your help in getting Bill booked
for Colorado Mountain College in Leadville. What a great show last
night! We packed the venue and Bill made a lot of new fans! I think
it's the best I've ever seen him play! Thanks again for everything!
Skip
Lee, Dean of Student Affairs, Colorado Mountain College - Leadville,
CO
Just wanted to let you know that the noon lecture event at Viterbo
University and the concert, more than met our expectations. I truly
appreciate how wonderful you all were to work with and how careful
you were in all our plannings to make sure that we got it right.
It paid off. People can't quit talking about how exciting and "transforming"
the events were. It was pleasure to see Bill having such a good
time on Earth Night.
Dorothy Lenard, Coulee Partners for Sustainability - La Crosse,
WI
The faculty and students at the University of Tennessee at Martin
were honored to have Bill Miller as a speaker at the 10th Annual
National Civil Rights Conference. Our attendance was around 450-500.
His words teach the struggles that Native Americans have faced since
Columbus landed. His passion for his people and for all of humanity
defines the character of a follower of the Red Road. His music is
awe inspiring, yet his words of wisdom about the equality of all
humans helps heal the wounds of inequality that have been ever present
in the United States. Bill speaks not only as a Native American
Indian but as a person who cares about all. His unique experiences
in life teach people to honor all of humanity on all our relations.
If you have not heard Bill Miller speak, you are missing one of
the greatest of this era, and he is sensational. African American
students came to hear him the second time because his words are
inspirational and uplifting. "Come experience the magic, the
Bill Miller Experience." This last phrase was printed on posters
because once you have heard him live, you have truly experienced
magic. We hope to have him here in 2011 at the 11th Civil Rights
Conference. Thanks for bringing him to UTM.
- Brent A. Cox, Department of History, Philosophy and International
Studies, University of Tennessee at Martin, Martin TN
This VIDEO
expresses so well what I experienced on November 9, 2009. I hadn't
previously heard of Bill Miller. He came to our rural community
college to speak and to perform, and as I listened and watched,
I was absolutely blown away that this man, whose talent could command
huge venues and admission fees, chose our remote location. He made
us feel? like he was talking to his best friends, and as the video
states, he really shares himself and his experiences. Seeing him
in person is amazing.
A student, from Montcalm Community College, Sidney, MI
Great show! Our students loved Bill and his performance tied in
very well with some of our academic programs that we are promoting.
On our academic side I like to bring in individuals that support
our classes/programs, but also appeal to community members.
Michael J. Engle, Asst. Chair, Social Sciences/Educ. Dept.,
Pueblo Community College - Pueblo, CO
Hi George - everything went very well. Each time Bill visits I feel
it opens up another opportunity for him to relate his musical experiences
and artistic vision to the students and each time it is unique.
This time we covered a lot about the songwriting and record production
process and the students were enthralled. Again, thanks for all
your help in making this happen and look forward to working together
soon...
Andrew Krikun, Music Professor - Bergen Community College, Paramus,
NJ
Bill came and did an excellent job. It was a wonderful performance
and his stories were riveting. Thanks W.
Wilfred
M. Manyango, Assistant Director of Student Life, Richland College,
Dallas TX
Bill was wonderful! He captured the attention of all of the students,
some of whom were just stopping in for lunch. His willingness to
share his experiences as well as his music resonated with our audience.
Many of them stood in line to speak with him after the performance.
The students are asking to have him back at LLCC next year. I am
planning on looking into that. Bill has a genuine way of connecting
with people and I want to continue bringing his message to our students.
We had an attendance of 175 with a balanced representation of the
community, students and college staff. Some community members even
drove over 2 hours to hear Bill's performance. The audience gave
him a standing ovation! I have not seen that happen on campus for
the programs offered through the Multicultural Awareness Center
or the Student Life Office.
Blanca
Bernasek, Director of Multicultural Affairs, Lincoln Land Community
College - Springfield, MO
I am sure Bill has told you the Kiva was literally packed! He gave
a wonderful concert, people were mesmerized by his stories, and
many stayed afterwards to have snacks and visit with him. We would
like to arrange a return visit in December as an Artist-in-Residence
at the Koshare Museum and also sponsor another concert and, this
time, an Outreach. Our Outreaches involve bussing students (probably
middle school and high school) onto the campus for a performance
in the afternoon.
Sallie Hibbs, Coordinator of Multicultural Activities, Otero
Junior College – La Junta, CO
The show was truly amazing! I fell so blessed that our campus/community
got to see Bill Miller perform. It was a win-win situation for everyone.
I would like him to come down again next year in May to perform
for one of our awards ceremonies
Anthony LaTour, Director of Student Life, Lamar Community College
– Lamar, CO
The concert was great and the students in our conversation next
day said that they found it really inspiring. We had the large Lecture
Hall full that night despite of the snow and cold weather. I had
a dozen calls on the day of the concert from the city, people outside
college campus who we interested. And later I heard from people
who heard it was wonderful and they were wondering if they could
go to La Junta to see it next day. Please, give our respects to
Mr Miller. The students and International Services are very grateful.
Tatyana Stock, Coordinator of International Programs and Services,
Lamar Community College – Lamar, CO
Everyone loved Bill! The comments from those who attended are attached,
as well as a group photo taken with some of the Delta College students.
I know this was a little different from what Bill is use to, but
we had standing room only and the performance was very intimate!
Thanks for making a difference in our community.
Linda Holoman, Student & Educational Services, Delta College
– University Center, MI
Concert went great. Bill was amazing and very personable. It was
wonderful as Bill knew so many people who attended and really made
the show an intimate setting. Great talent that just didn’t
stop at playing; Bill truly educated the audience.
Scott Powell, Director of Student Activities, North Central
Michigan College – Petoskey, MI
Thank you very much Bill, for your moving performance. I know the
students here at FAU were greatly appreciative for your time spent
here. Your words and sincerity has moved alot of people and we are
greatful for the opportunity to have shared that with you.
Tariq Smith, Office of Multicultural Affairs & Pre-College
Programs, Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL
It went very well! I heard several people mention that they really
liked the more intimate setting because it allowed them to connect
with Bill, ask questions, etc. in a way that a larger audience would've
made difficult. Overall, NAUC is very pleased! I hope Bill enjoyed
his stay here! Thank you for all your help and let me know if you
need anything else from me!
Kristen Cooperkline, Event Organizer/Treasurer of the NAUC ,
Bowling Green State University - Bowling Green, OH
The
performance went well. I really think that he added a great dimension
to the overall event and his music is very good. I had a great time
meeting Bill and working with him. I think the audience enjoyed
his performance as well. I have heard great things from the people
who attended the event.
Matt Adams, Vice President of the Native American Unity Council
Bowling Green State University - Bowling Green, OH
OMG, Bill's performance was phenomenal!! I was so afraid that no
one would come out because it was terribly cold in Fulton last night.
But even so, we had over 250 students in attendance, and that number
doesn't include all those from the community who came out to hear
him...one couple even drove over 2 hours, from St. Louis, just to
hear him. Many bought his CDs and stayed behind to talk with him
and to take pictures. It was a fantastic evening, and I think Bill
enjoyed himself as well.
Tamara Carter, Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs, William
Woods University - Fulton, MO
Hi Bill! Okay so you came to my school (Coastal Carolina University)
and I just wanted to let you know that I had originally just gone
to your presentation because I was suppose to for one of my classes.
I wasn't very excited about it. Yet you were AMAZING and definitely
surprised me and I wanted to let you know that you are a fantastic
speaker and an amazing musician. You definitely made a great impression
on me and my fellow classmates. Just today I spoke to a couple other
people that attended last night and no one could stop talking about
you and how awesome the music was and your presentation want spellbinding.
You surprised us in a great way and got us thinking about EVERYTHING
that you spoke about. I just thought you might like to know how
great we all thought you were and how you affected each of us on
a personal level. Have a great day and keep on amazing people!
Kat
Jackson, History Student, Coastal Carolina University, Conway, GA
Bill Miller last night on campus is such a great guy and very easy
to work with. So talented and just a class act in every way. Thanks
for making show happen and working out details. Everyone there last
night was there to hear him and you could have heard a pin drop
during the show. Great mix of stories, guitar, flute, original music,
and a cover song as well.
Boyd
Jones, Campus Programs Director , Winthrop University – Rock
Hill, SC
The concert was great. He is performing with style, passion, and
virtuosity. The audience enjoyed him and I received great and enthusiastic
comments. I am so glad he came here. Thank you for all your help.
It was lovely to work with you.
Petritsa Chatzitziva, Asst. Director Multicultura Services,
Kutztown University, Kutztown, PA
It was a pleasure to have Bill at my school!! The three assemblies
went very well. The kids clapped along to the beat of the songs,
singing, swaying, and just really getting into the music. Bill's
songs were introduced by 5 of my homeroom kids and he even asked
them to sing along with him during "Geronimo's Cadillac"
Bill ended the show with a sing-a-long of "This Land Is Your
Land". The local TV station covered one of the assemblies,
as well as interviewing him . It appeared on the 5 o'clock news
channel 13 (local ). The Pocono Record, the local newspaper, had
a feature story of him the day of the concert. THey also took pictures
during the assemblies and they appeared in the paper the next day.
The community concert at night went well. There were slightly over
100 people in attendance. Many parents and kids came to me afterwards
to thank me for bringing Bill to our community. Thanks so much for
all your help. Hopefully, we can bring him back again in a few years.
Marta Storm, Instuctor, Stroudsburg Middle School, Stroudsburg,
PA
The ratings from students were excellent and the faculty/staff who
attended also thought it was a fantastic performance. Great stuff.
My cell phone didn’t ring once and that means that technically
and administratively there were no glitches whatsoever. Hopefully
Bill enjoyed working with our students and that the accommodations
we had for him were suitable. I have actually received an inquiry
from a professor to do a workshop in a class! Thanks again for your
recommendations, they have been very good.
Len Harmon, Cultural Institute, Nichols College, Dudley, MA
We had a great audience response to
the concert, which was wonderful. Bill had a tough time with the
weather, which was nasty that night, so finding the theatre and
getting settled in was a little tense. But he gave a truly great
performance, and got to meet some Native kids who were visting from
a South Dakota reservation. They were very excited to talk with
him. Winona would love to bring Bill back (hopefully in better weather!)
Greg Peterson, Theatre du Mississippi, Winona, MN
Everything went just as planned. All
of the events went extremely well and people responded to Bill in
a very positive way. I wasn’t surprised, having heard him before,
but I was impressed by his ability to capture an audience and hold
their desire to travel more deeply into his personal sociological,
psychological, and emotional experience as a Native American man.
His message to high school students was especially well-received.
In the history of this particular alternative high school program
where he spoke to approximately 100 students, Bill got the only
standing ovation that was ever offered to a long list of speakers.
Quite impressive. He’s on our “to do” list for people who we’d like
to bring back to campus in a few years.
Sam Richards, Director of Race Relations - Penn State University
- University Park, PA
Bill was very well recieved. his talk
at noon was very moving ---an audience of about 75 or so...........and
then he kicked ass in the barn theatre's audience of 100+ enthusiastic
fans from as far as Toledo, northern Indiana, and upper Michigan.
Bill really likes Sidney and MCC, and we love him here. Thanks for
working with us, House.
Ken DeLong, Native American Club Advisor, Montcalm Community College
- Sidney, MI
Bill's performance could not have been
any better! The audience response was exceptional, as always.
Phil Siganer, Town Crier Cafe - Pawling, NY
I, for one, will never forget Bill.
You were right, he is a wonderful human being. His lecture went
over well. We had a variety of students, faculty, staff from campus
and over 100 teachers and students from Stone Child College and
Hayes/Lodge Pole School. Probably a total of 250 at the lecture.
The concert was wonderful. About 200 people. A professor who attends
most of our programming approached me after the show and told me
it was the best concert he had ever attended in his life. Bill's
stories and music touched his heart and he would never forget the
experience. I was fortunate to be able to take Bill back to Great
Falls to catch his flight home. We had a couple of hours time to
visit and he is a truly humble man who knows exactly why he is here
on this earth. Not all of us can say that. He can truly make a difference
and has with his people. He told me, as we parted at the airport,(with
a huge hug and a kiss) that he would make every effort to come back
to Havre as it was one of his very special places. I believe Stone
Child College talked to him while he was here about attending their
Pow Wow and teaching some art workshops in the classrooms. Thank
you so much for encouraging us to bring Bill here. He was worth
every penny!!
Denise Brewer, Director of Student Activities, Montana State University
Northern – Havre, MT
The performances went off as spectacles.
Everyone attending gave standing ovations. Bill was joined by Arvel
Bird and Eagle, who donated their time and talent for the Friday
concert. Everyone said that this past weekend was an experience
that they may never again see and they were glad that they were
able to be a part of it.
Bryan Halfday, American Indian Services Pow Wow Chair - Lincoln
Park, MI
Bill Miller was such a pleasure to host
on campus. His show was perfect for our summer series and I received
very positive feedback from the audience! He's a gracious, interesting
man and an extremely talented musician. I would love to think about
booking him for our Wyman Series of '08-'09.
Karyn King, Event Coordinator, University of Wisconsin at River
Falls - River Falls, WI
Bill was great! Very friendly, soft
spoken, and didn’t mind hanging out while waiting for his
performance time. I enjoyed his presence and would like to have
spent more time talking with him, but of course I had to continue
my follow up With other performers, their lodging, their meals,
passes, etc… All in all, the event went smoothly and Bill
gave a former student of ours an afternoon to remember. He invited
Bronson up to The stage to jam with him. The crowd enjoyed it and
most of all, Bronson was honored. Thanks again for everything ,
We hope all continues to be well with you both, and thank Bill for
us again.
Elfreda Yazzie, Student Programs, Diné College- Tsaile,
AZ
Phenomenal! His performance was truly
inspired.
Nicole Bach, Diversity Council Chair, Jefferson College - Hillsboro,
MO
Bill was absolutely wonderful! I think he could have played another
hour or so and the crowd would have stayed.
Cathy Karrick, Director of Public Information, Kaskaskia College
- Centralia, IL
The Bill Miller show went quite well - almost a sellout. Bill's
visit to the Lac Du Flambeau tribe went very well - he got the kids
involved with drumming and then featured them on stage for his mini
concert. I wish we could have found a way to get him to the other
tribes in our area, but it's tough to get any momentum going. Thanks
for your arrangements with this
Jim Nuttall, Theatre Director, Nicolet College - Rhinelander,
WI
Bill Miller’s visit was awesome. Our students really enjoyed
the lecture and the concert. We even had community members drive
as far as 5 hours to come to the concert. Some students mentioned
how Bill is so down to earth even when he is a Grammy Award Winner.
It was great having back on campus. Thanks for all your help.
Alex Piedras, Director of Multicultural
Affairs, Grand View College - Des Moines, IA
We had a great time. He was delightful. We really
enjoy the music and the workshop was very informative. Thanks for
all you do.
Gail Tolbert, Multicultural Education Administrative Assistant,
University of Northern Iowa - Cedar Falls, IA
My friend, Craig Bickhardt, had the pleasure and privilege of opening
for Bill Miller at Tin Angel Sunday night. I can tell you that after
35 years in the music business, I have never met such a true gentleman
as Bill Miller. In addition to putting on an extraordinary show,
he treated Craig like a true gentleman, and we both really, really
appreciate it. Bill is the kind of rare artist and gentleman that
makes us remember why we all stared in this crazy business. Please
pass along our thanks to Bill!!
Larry Ahearn - SongGallery
The show was awesome! Bill was so great, we will definitely have
him back someday. He actually came a day early and spoke to our
students and sang a song for them, he has such a powerful story
to tell and it shows through his music. The students, staff and
faculty loved having him here. Thank you for all your help.
Amy Erickson, Center for Career Development, Leech Lake Tribal
College - Cass Lake, MN
We were delighted with Bill's two performances at the Saratoga Native
American Festival. His audiences were spellbound, moved by his musicianship, his
wonderful voice, and the deep spiritual and cultural content of
his entire presentation. He received standing ovations after each
of his sets. As a measure of how he managed to touch everyone, even
our professional sound engineer, who has been working concerts for
many years said that he'd never experienced anything like it before.
Bill lived up to our expectations and surpassed them. Our attendance
figures for Saturday, the day Bill performed, were about 5,500.
Having such headliners as Bill and Joanne Shenandoah certainly helped
us reach that number of attendees, as well as it being one of the
few sunny weekend days over the past few months.
Joe Bruchac, Director, Native American Music & Arts Festival,
Saratoga, NY
Bill was great! We had a very good turn out of students, faculty/staff
and community members. We do evaluations at each event we hold and
overwhelming, our community would like Bill to return to campus
soon. Bill mentioned that he’d be interested in doing a residency
with us where he would teach one or two classes in addition to giving
a concert. I’d like to look into setting something like that
up for next year.
Christana Johnson, Director Multicultural Affairs,
Shepherd University, herdstown, WV
Bill's visit couldn't have been more perfect.
I drew the long straw and had the honor of transporting him around--it
was a true pleasure. The concert was fantastic. Great connection
with the audience and lots of positive energy being sent his way.
Could have sold 2-3x the number of CDs, but hopefully people will
go out to the website and order them. Some good contacts made for
future opportunities in our area as well. Look forward to his return!!!!
Of course, there is the issue of the birthday cake, but you will
have to ask him about that. I did send him some, protected with
dry ice. :-)
Lynn Dyer, Tourism Director, Mesa Verde National Park - Mesa
Verde, CO
Bill Miller's performance was GREAT!!!!!! We absolutley loved him
and so did the audience. I am encourageing my sorority to bring
him back again becasue we we so impressed and we enjoyed the performance
so much. Thank you again.
Catrina Clayton, Programmer for Sorority, Bradley University
- Peoria, IL
The Bill Miller show was awesome. By far our best
Live @ Lunch this school year. We had a lot of non students turn
out for the show and a lot were singing along. So there's a pretty
good fan base here in St. Cloud. Bill was awesome, talked to everyone
that came up to him, signed things, and whatnot. Thanks again,
Justin Helker, Center Stage Coordinator, Saint Cloud State University
- Saint Cloud, MN
Bill is an excellent performer as well as a speaker. He did have
time to stay at our reception and talk with every students and even
guests. Many of our students will carry this day and their time
with Bill, for the rest of their lives.
Jim Knudson, American Indian Center , Saint Cloud State University
in Saint Cloud, MN
As expected, Bill was marvelous. His performance still has people
talking about it and wondering if we could bring him back. The only
complaint was that people wished he could have played for an additional
couple of hours!! The workshop that he gave was also a real special
opportunity for our students. His message was very personal, understandable
and powerful. The students reported that Bill's talk was one of
the most educational experiences that they have encountered. Thank
you again House and you were especially great to work with. Thank
you for your patience and flexibility. I am sure we will be working
together again in the future!
Lisa Blackford, Diversity/Academic Advisor, Northwestern Michigan
College, Traverse City, MI
Bill Miller is wonderful!! He had the entire audience crying and
other hugging each other. His story was sooooo powerful and of course
his music was great. I was worried about how my students would react
to him talking so much. I worried in vain, they loved him.
Pat Singleton-Young, Coastal Carolina University, Conway, SC
Bill had a wonderful day yesterday, he told me !! He’s so
down-to-earth and laid back. It was a pleasure spending the day
with him. The flute workshop was well attended — they were
very interested and engaged. The afternoon session was packed –
the reconciliation workshop – and, again, he was awesome.
He told it like it was – and I know the students appreciate
that approach. And – well, what can I say about his performance
in the evening? Terry and Mike, a couple locals that Bill has performed
with in the past, joined him, we got him a nice sound system and
he really impressed everyone with his wortes and music. It was so
engaging and I hope to work with you again next year to bring him
back to campus. I’ll have to submit a grant application around
the first of September, so put me on the list to contact in August
with prices and then I can have more time to plan and get money
! :)
Cindy Killion, Associate Professor Mass Communication, Winona
State University in Winona, MN
I was truly impressed with Bill's performance. I enjoyed the company
and the show. He has a story to tell that should encourage others.
Would you please thank Bill for coming to our campus and let him
know that we would love to have him back in the future.
Bobbi John Jeanette, Diversity Advocate, Illinois State University
- Normal, IL
Everything was great. Got to know Bill well in just a couple days.
His talk was VERY moving to all in attendance, and his concert was
awesome. He got a standing “O” . Thanks for all your
help.
Ken DeLong, Advisor, Montcalm Community College - Sidney, MI
For those of us that met Bill and were able to talk with him we
were truly honored that he shared his life and stories as well as
his wisdom with us. Bill is a wonderful man and I believe he touched
the souls of many that day. One hour is just not enough time for
the students to really get into asking questions as Bill has a lot
to talk about. I do not know how much the instructors actually communicated
with Bill. We would be interested to hear his reaction to his visit
and tell us if expectations were met, not met and what he would
like to see done differently. He is a great musician and delivered
a great message. It was good for students to hear that a degree
will not give them the mastery they need for their art: experience
and age as well as persistance makes you a master. As far as myself,
from the Diversity Center, working with you - you were great! Very
personable and you always got back to us immediately when we had
questions or concerns. You were very easy to work with. As I said
I would be really appreciative to hear what Bill's experience was.
Thank you for all you did. I am hoping that we can someday work
with you again.
Darlene Fossum-Martin, Program Assistant, Diversity Center,
Luther College, IA
Bill's lecture and concert were both phenomenal. He was extremely
genuine, down-to-earth, kind, easy going and funny. He's been the
talk of campus for the last week. Everyone really enjoyed listening
to his lecture and learning about his life, where he came from,
and the obstacles he's overcome to get where he is today. They've
made comments about how he is a "real person" and not
some Grammy winner that didn't have time to relate to other people.
The concert was excellent as well. From his song selection, drone
flute playing to his stories in between we couldn't have asked for
more. The audience was extremely grateful for the college hosting
such an event and I know a number that are going to travel to Northland
College in Ashland, WI to hear him play again. One other note of
importance...for the last song (Knockin' on Heaven's Door) Bill
called up a student from the audience to sing with him. She really
was grateful for such an experience and she said it's something
she'll never forget. Just thought I'd paste her post from Bill's
website.
Dear Mr. Miller,
This is Becky Kataja. I just had to tell you how much of an honor
it was to sing with you at your concert at GCC!!! It was an amazing
experience. I can't thank you enough! You are an inspiration to
all and I thank you for sharing your life with all of us. Good luck
on your upcoming tours. You will be in my prayers(no joke, I will
pray for you.) Well, I'm sure that you're busy so I'll let you go
now... Thank you again for the wonderful experience.
Sincerely,
Becky
Thanks ~Dayle
Dayle L. Jackson, Director, Student Support Services, Gogebic
Community College, MI
Bill was awsome. The students loved him. The attendance was about
what we had expected from non students, yet all our students were
all there and got a lot out of the experiance. We got to spend a
lot of time with him and he was so personable that the students
felt comfortable approaching him and talking. The concert was amazing
and his lectures spoke so deeply to all of us. Thank you so much
for helping me put the program together. I am hoping he will be
willing to come back again sometime. If you get the chance to talk
to him please let him know I am mailing his package back to him
today and let me know if he has any comments about his experiance
here.
Jessica Sides, Dircetor, Native American Program, Guilford College,
Greensboro, NC
Hi George – the Bill Miller visit was fantastic! The workshops
were great – the students loved him. And the audience was
floored by his performance on Friday night. It was a total success.
I am equally moved by his music and his character. We would definitely
love to have him back again. Thanks for helping to make this happen!
Andy Krikun, Instructor of Music and Music Business and Chair,
Center for the Study of Intercultural Understanding, Bergen Community
College, NJ
I can sum up the whole experience with one word,WOW! Bill's concert
was amazing. His music was unique, real and easy to relate to. His
skill with guitar was also very impressive. Last night was a great
experience and one I will not soon forget.
Lynette Emanuel, General Ed. / Native American Studies Wisconsin
Indianhead Technical College
Bill was wonderful! What a positive role model for our students
as well as the non-native students. Apparently he has quite a following
through his website …. I answered tons of calls for three
weeks on location, directions, and cost from people that had seen
his website and wanted to be here. We set up 200 chairs for the
concert and I think they were all full. He spoke to an art class
in the morning and they loved him. I didn’t know he was an
artist, too! I told him he could easily develop a whole course on
his life’s experiences. He’s an excellent speaker and
really engages the audience.

Bill was one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. He called
me after the show just to tell me how much he enjoyed performing
on our campus/working with me. I've never had a performer do that.
I was enamored with him. No wonder he has excelled in his career
and personal life.
Aleesha Drost, Student Activities Dir. Wisconsin Indianhead
Technical College
Bill Miller's performance was wonderful. The audience was very responsive
to his lecture part, and thoroughly enjoyed the music. Hopefully,
he might consider returning here some day.

Bill was a smashing hit. In the nine years of serving at North Central
University, I have never observed such an outstanding chapel event.
Bill was amazing and the audience response was fantastic. Three
standing ovations....need I say more.
Dan Call, North Central University
Many of the students said that they have never seen a more talented
guitar player than Bill Miller. The students were impressed, not
only because Bill was a Grammy winner but because he was a superb
show. Bill was very friendly and easy going. He was very easy to
work with, as are all of your performers. Bill also brought his
son, Jacob, with him to Northland. Jacob performed with Bill on
a song, I feel that was an added bonus. I could tell the audience
really liked that. Thanks again for all your work in helping me
bring Bill here for a successful event!
Christy Van Wey - Northland College - Multi-cultural Coordinator

Bill is such an incredibly talented person. I really enjoyed his
performance along with other community members. We had a group of
sixth and seventh graders from local schools, a few people from
a local retirement village, and of course, faculty staff and student
from PSH. Please let him know how much Penn State Harrisburg enjoyed
a lovely afternoon visit with him.
Lois Cochran, Penn State, Harrisburg
The concert with Bill Miller, Gathering Thunder and Jim Beer was
inspired. Bill connects with his audience in a personal, spiritual
way and the synergy that existed with this concert in particular
was magnetic. He received a sustained and standing ovation. And,
I continue to hear from people who were deeply moved by the performance.
Because of the collaborative nature of the concert, the performance
was imbued with a special energy and joy. This culminated a week
in which Bill managed to deftly, and graciously, navigate diverse
classes from Race and Gender to an American Music Survey. The racial
reconciliation workshop was particularly moving as Bill generously
shared with the group his own background and personal struggle to
reconcile with his father in order to begin his important work as
a catalyst for Native American reconciliation. I was humbled to
be his campus guide and thrilled to welcome him back to Oswego.
Bill touches hearts and souls in intangible ways and he is a musician
and artist non pareil.
Mary Avrakotos, SUNY (NY)
"Bill was absolutely wonderful! The program was great and the
audience was involved and really enjoyed it. Bill's stories were
as entertaining as his music! I would love to have him back in the
spring if his schedule permits and if the funding is available.
Thank you for everything!"
Chris Clardy, Multicultural Advocate - Austin Peay State University

"Bill was excellent. Everyone had nothing but great comments
about him. He moved people to tears with his speaking and singing.
Last year he was here at MTU and because of that we now have four
young students playing instruments and looking to start their own
band. Bill is truly an inspiration for people of all ages and demographics."
