  Truman

TRUMAN blends influences from pop icon John Mayer, jazzy crooner Michael Buble, and R&B legend Stevie Wonder to develop a pop/rock/soul sound founded on powerful vocals and passionate songwriting. The brother duo- Ben and Chad Truman- has played to audiences of more than 13,000, sharing the stage with such artists as Kelly Clarkson, David Archuleta, & Josh Kelley. The Truman show won the campus-wide Battle of the Bands two years in a row at Brigham Young University behind Ben’s melodic hooks and Chad’s mood-altering chords—gifts they partially inherited from father Dan Truman, keyboard player for the award-winning group Diamond Rio. Raised in Nashville, Tennessee, the brothers have embraced Music City’s catchphrase, “It all begins with a song.” When you listen, you discover Truman’s music is all at once a classic.

Reviews and comments (back to top)

Not only did Truman put on a highly entertaining performance, they were a hit off stage as well. Signing autographs, talking and dancing with fans created a great atmosphere before and after the show. Punctual and prepared, we really enjoyed having Truman at Washington State University.
Riley Mykleburst, SEB Director, Washington State University - Pullman, WA

Truman was really great! This was the first event like this we have held in our new Campus Center and it seemed to work really well. The brothers were so easy to work with and were very talented. They are very entertaining and supremely talented. The response from the students was very positive and several bought CDs, so I think they were pleased too. They were really nice and low maintenance and took some requests, etc. too…great performers!
Roy Lee Wigginton II, Student Life Coordinator, Centre College – Danville, KY

Chad and Ben were fantastic, they really put on a good show. They were very interactive with our students, and everyone in attendance had a great time. In fact several of our students were wondering aloud if we could bring them back sometime, and we would love to have them! Another great show courtesy of you, and this duo has a bright future ahead of them.
Chris Haab, Graduate Student for Campus Programming, Rockford College - Rockford, IL

Truman's performance was amazing and met all of our expectations. They are great to have come and also easy to work with. As performers they did great and definitely made sure the audience enjoyed themselves. The audience response was great and many people asked where we had found them and some bought cds. We will definitely be booking them again in the future.
Chrissy McCracken, CAB President, Idaho State University - Idaho Falls, ID

The show went really well. The guys were great! A bunch if people were busying CD’s which was a good sign! Thanks a bunch for sending them to us!

Paige Madrid, Program Coordinator for Student Life , University of South Carolina Beaufort , Bluffton, SC

Friday was great, we had a small crowd but the people who were there really enjoyed it and the guys were great. I imagine we will have them back in the future at some point.
Mark Adamson, Director of Student Involvement, Brevard College, Brevard, NC

Truman was absolutely great! They were some of the nicest guys we have had play here, we could all tell that they really love what they do. They got a great crowd and more people stopped to listen to them while walking by. They put on a great show and were perfect for our coffeehouse setting. I would recommend them to any college.

Kady Johnson, CAB Coffeehouse Chair, Gustavus Adolphus College – Saint Peter, MN

Truman was AWESOME as an opener for Josh Kelley this past weekend. It was our Family Weekend, so their music blended perfectly to set-up for Josh's performance. The concert was outdoors and had a real mellow feel, which worked perfectly for our situation. We would definitely like to have Truman back for a coffeehouse or something of that type in the future, they went over VERY well here at Rockhurst.

Phil Bennett, SAB President, Rockhurst University – Kansas City, MO

We thought everything went great! Truman was fantastic, excellent entertainers, kind and personable young men! Audience response was very positive, they should have a good following from Rockhurst, there were in particular many young women interested in knowing where they were performing next!!!!
Angie Carr, Director of Student Life, Rockhurst University – Kansas City, MO

Last night went well! The students who attended really seemed to enjoy it and about a dozen or so lingered afterwards to chat with them and get autographs. The guys were friendly and engaging and I think they connected well with the students. Some girls were even planning a road trip to Provo to see the guys by the time the night was over. And I felt kind of ridiculous in that I had asked a couple of the members to put together a hospitality basket for the guys. They come into my office the next morning with an entire pineapple. I looked at them and said, “You aren’t seriously going to give them that are you?! I’m pretty sure the guys don’t travel around with knives and cutting board just so they can cut up pineapple!” They thought it was hysterical and thought it would be funny to give it the guys – I apologized to Ben about it and he thought it was pretty funny as well. So I guess it worked out fine and we got a good laugh out of it but still – really, girls? A pineapple? All in all a good night and hopefully the guys had a good time too.
Courtney Yantes, Graduate Assistant for Student Involvement, William Woods University – Fulton, MO

The show last night was great--one of the best. The guys were sounded great and were very friendly. We had a huge crowd that stayed the entire time. Overall one of the best we've had from you guys!
Dan Sepion, Residential College Director, Washington University – Saint Louis, MO

Truman was fantastic! We absolutely loved them. Thank you so much for suggesting we bring them today!
Mindy Kinnaman, Assistant Residence Life Coordinator, Avila University - Kansas City, MO

Having Truman on our campus was a HUGE success. It was one of the best attended events of our welcome week. People loved their performance. I know many people came to me after and wanted to know where they could get a CD and asked why had they never heard of them before. I am definitely going to be considering bringing them back for another show later in the school year. Thank you for suggesting them and being so good to work with!
Chrissy McCracken, SAB Director, Idaho State University – Idaho Falls, ID

What a great show. Truman did a great job. They were very easy to work with and flexible to the needs of our students. In fact, I haven't had so many students and staff respond as positively to a young group as they did with Truman. All indications are that our folks would like to have them back again sometime. Please tell the guys how much we appreciate their fantastic show. And thanks to you for helping us work this out.
Ches Barnes, Director of Student Activities, Idaho State University - Idaho Falls, ID

"Truman is the most naturally talented group that we have ever had. They are a sure bet. They win over the crowd better than anyone."
-Josh Reschke, Former BYU Campus Activities Executive Director

“Funny, smart, charming, talented, handsome, and spectacular are just a few of the words that describe the Truman brothers. We recently had them perform at our school and they were impressive to the crowd and loved by the girls! We hope to have them back again!”
- LDS Business College Student Body President, Josh Bennett

We hear many songwriters in the course of a year at NSAI, but when I heard Truman, I knew Ben and Chad had something special. Besides having talent, they are such nice guys and are a dream to work with. I listen to great songs all day – from pros and new talent – as part of my job, but very few make it into my car’s CD player. Truman is in there.
– Debi Cochran, Legislative Director for the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI)

Brothers Ben and Chad Truman expel a mature, smooth sound that draws on an ear-tickling mélange of influences.
